View DetailsDolpo trekking is challenging yet rewarding Himalayan journey through the Nepal’s remote and restricted Upper Dolpo region. The trek leads you through the dramatic, arid highlands landscape of Dolpo, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and preserved Bon culture. The trek passes through arid Tibetan plateaus, lush valleys, snow-capped peaks, including the famous Shey Phoksundo lake, a turquoise lake surrounded by the towering cliffs. The region is home to an ancient monasteries and traditional Tibetan communities – you can observe the unique Dolpo culture. The trekkers requires both physical and mental endurance, offering a sense of accomplishment. So, the trip features off-the-beaten path, challenging three high-altitude passes which all are over five thousand meters. So, it’s the demanding – challenging, tent/camping style adventures for the experienced trekkers who wish to cross Kang La Pass (5,306M), Saldang La Pass (5,200M) and Jeng La Pass (5,090M). Dolpo is a restricted region, a special permit are needed to do trekking including the minimum of two trekkers. Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best time to do go for trekking there, in these seasons the weather is pleasant, stable with blue skies offering stunning mountain views and the mystical landscape of Dolpo.
Highlights of the day: The flight journey is relatively short, scenic view of Kathmandu valley, potential glimpses of the Himalayas and you’ll be land at Nepalgunj airport – a gateway to the Terai region of western Nepal. Up on your arrival, you’ll be transfer to your hotel.
Highlights of the day: Early morning flight to Juphal, it is a small airstrip which is the gateway to the Dolpa region. You begin your journey often leads to Dunai which is the district headquarters of Dolpa.
Highlights of the day: From Dunai, you’ll be crossing the suspension bridge over Bheri River. Following the trekking trail with ups and downs, you’ll be passing through forests and the small villages like Sulighat. Afterwards you’ll be entering the Shey Phoksundo National Park. Ankhe is a small village which is surrounded by terraces fields and forests.
Highlights of the day: The trek begin with the mix of forested river-beds, ups and down terrain. Towards the Sulighat the trail may have the rocky stairs, or stone paths also there is narrow path which is nearby river banks. Sulighat is the official entrance to Shey Phoksundo National Park, where the permits are registered.
Highlights of the day: The trail begin from Sulighat along the valley floor, following the Phoksundo and Pungmo rivers. You’ll be crossing the wooden bridge over the river, following the trail through forests, start ascent the journey and you’ll probably see the view of Phoksundo waterfall. The trail goes through Ringmo village, a Tibetan Buddhist settlement known for its mani walls, colorful prayer flags and chortens.
Highlights of the day: Visit of Ringmo village – a traditional Bonpo (pre-Buddhist) settlement and visit of Tshowa Gompa (Bon Monastery) – a 900 years old Bon monastery located on a ridge above the lake, OR ascend small ridges around the lake for the panoramic views of the turquoise water and surround peaks.
Highlights of the day: A significant part of this trek involves traversing a precarious rocky ledge high above the western bank of Phoksundo lake. Wooden walks which are supported by pegs driven into the rocks, marks this challenging and thrilling section of the trail. After the lake, the path leads through a lush meadow and open into the floor plain of the Phoksundo khola.
Highlights of the day: You’ll be crossing various mountain streams, including one at the confluence of the Phoksundo Khola and other streams. On the way further more you might see the old wooden bridge, need to cross it and the trail turns northeast which involves a long, steep climbs, green pasture land and open valley. A trail leading to the overnight camp at Phoksundo Bhanjyang, located just below the Kang La Pass.
Highlights of the day: Start early morning because on the top of pass will be windy in the late morning. The trail starts along a narrow valley following the Phoksundo Khola upstream. You will be pass through yak pastures, moraine, nearby the pass there will be snow and icy section too. The Ngadra La/Kang La offers the magnificent view of Shey Valley and surrounding peaks of the Dolpo range. Descending is steep and might be slippery because this section is often covered with snow. Follow along the river downstream, the trail reaches at the village of Shey and the famous Shey Gompa.

Highlights of the day: One of the most thrilling and demanding high altitude pass of the trek. After leaving Shey, descending through juniper forests into a stony canyon, and then long and tiring downhill trek to Namduna village.
Highlights of the day: Namduna is a tiny stone-built village which is rarely visited by trekkers, from here to Saldang is a short, culturally rich, scenic route to Saldang.
Highlights of the day: The trail is following the Nagon/Namga Khola, passing Marang, Ki village, crossing Panzang river, and reaching ancient Bon-Po Monastery at Yangze.
Highlights of the day: Retracing steps from Yangze towards Saldang village, passing Chaiba Monastery and ten following Nam Khong River through terraced fields. Visit monastery and later on we will reach to Sibu for overnight.
Highlights of the day: Walking along the Nam Khong River, crossing several streams, up hills trekking to the stunning high-altitude meadow – Jeng La Phedi which is the perfect place for camping and acclimatization before tackling the high pass itself.
Highlights of the day: Today is the key section of the trail which is the challenging high-altitude pass crossing, the summit of the Jeng La Pass rewarded with the stunning close-up view of the formidable Dhaulagiri massif along with other peaks. After the pass the trail involves a long and rugged descent into the picturesque Tarap valley which is one of the longest valleys in the Himalayas. Our today’s destination Tokya village is prosperous settlement influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.
Highlights of the day: The trail is relatively easy and short trek, features a distinct change in the scenery, starting with rocky, dry section around Tokya village and becoming noticeable greener as you descent towards Dho Tarap.
Highlights of the day: Dho Tarap is a significant settlement and providing a rich glimpse into the traditional Tibetan lifestyle. Exploring the village, interaction with the local people, and visit of Monastery.
Highlights of the day: You’ll see the changing of landscape from high altitude-altitude grassland to a narrow gorge, also opportunities for spotting Himalayan wildlife.
Highlights of the day: The trail descent through the pristine landscapes, featuring dense forests, traditional villages, Tibetan culture, ancient Shey Gompa (monastery) and the beautiful turquoise Shey Phoksundo lake.
Highlights of the day: The path follows river, crossing high suspension bridges, valley views and the ambient sound of flowing river water. Tarakot is the significant highlight of the trip, the village locally know as “Dzong” which means fortress. Once it was the capital of the ancient kingdom, also a trading post.
Highlights of the day: The trail follows scenic Barbung river downstream, walking through forests, passing traditional villages towards more accessible gateway small town of Dunai.
Highlights of the day: The final trekking day of your Dolpa trek, crossing the high suspension bridges and walking along the river. Tonight, will celebrate last trek day together with all our crew members.
